PTI-SIC MNA Sanaullah Mastikhel suspended over foul language – M Haris

ISLAMABAD:

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq suspended on Saturday membership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-turned Sunni Ittehad Council (PTI-SIC) member, Sanaullah Mastikhel, for the remainder of the budget session for using foul language on the floor of the house.

The NA speaker while regretting that such inappropriate words have never been used on the microphone while delivering a speech in the assembly said that he was short of words to condemn such indecent language by a fellow lawmaker.

The ruckus started in the lower house of the parliament when the PTI-SIC lawmaker used a bad word – referring to one of male genital parts – against Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, alleging that PTI-SIC lawmakers have reached to the assembly through votes but the others took a different route.

Hearing the profane words, the PTI-SIC lawmakers laughed and started thumping the desks while the members of the treasury benches began protest against the use of vulgar language and demanded Mastikhel’s suspension.

The deputy speaker, Ghulam Mustafa Shah, who was presiding the session during Mastikhel’s speech, expunged the bad word before taking a break. Later on, NA speaker himself came and not only condemned the use of unparliamentary language in the house but read the motion seeking Mastikhel’s suspension for the remainder of the budget session.

The speaker read that during the sitting of the National Assembly held on June 22, Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, MNA, in his budget speech expressed highly objectionable and indecent remarks, thereby eroding and lowering the sanctity of the House.

Sadiq added that the act was in violation of rule 30 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, and disregarded the authority of chair and abusing the rules by willfully disrupting and obstructing the proceedings.

“I, therefore, name him in terms of rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007,” he read, “now, I put the question to the House that Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, MNA be suspended from the service of the assembly for the remainder of the session.”

The subsequent voting favoured the motion and consequently the motion was adopted. The speaker said that the member shall now forthwith withdraw from the precincts of the Assembly under rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
