Hafiz Naeem opposes Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, calls for talks with Taliban – M Haris

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has warned against the consequences of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam and called for negotiations with the Taliban.

Speaking at a public gathering at the Bajaur Sports Complex on Monday, Rehman emphasised that Pakistan, particularly the Pashtun belt, cannot endure more military operations.

He stated that no military operations should be conducted under any pretext, calling for peace and urging the inclusion of all political parties and the public in this matter. He argued that military operations sow hatred between the army and the public.

Rehman highlighted that military operations create rifts between the public and the military, leading to more harm than good. He urged foreign policy should not be dictated by American interests and should be independent.

Stressing the importance of dialogue, he further said that negotiations are the solution to problems, not wars.

He called for talks with the Taliban and stressed that Pakistan should engage in negotiations with Afghanistan as it is not an enemy. He also urged Afghanistan to ensure its land is not used against Pakistan.

Rehman challenged the PTI to present its eleven-year performance to the public, emphasising the need for education, healthcare, and employment. He demanded that people be given the right to live with dignity.

Other leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami also spoke at the gathering, voicing opposition to the operation. The event saw a large turnout, with attendees holding placards that read “We Want Peace.”
