A man lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet in the parking lot of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Karachi, Geo News reported on Tuesday.

Police have identified the deceased as 32-year-old Afzal.

Afzal had visited the hospital to see his cousin’s ailing son, who was admitted to the hospital.

According to police, Afzal was sitting with friends outside the children’s emergency ward when the mishap occurred.

Eyewitness Sajjad, who was present in the hospital’s parking lot at the time, recounted the events leading up to the tragedy. “There were sounds of intense aerial firing just minutes before Afzal was hit,” Sajjad said, adding that the noise seemed to be coming from a nearby area.

“The sounds of gunfire were still ringing when the deceased was being taken away on a motorcycle to the hospital’s emergency ward,” Sajjad noted.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the scene and surrounding areas to determine who fired the gun.

Earlier in the day, a girl was also shot and injured in Rawalpindi, a police report said. The girl was standing on the rooftop of her house when she was hit by a stray bullet.

She was shifted to the hospital. The girl was identified as 14-year-old Asma.
